Apparently I’m Worth Paying For — Let’s Find Out

Almost 6,000 readers in three weeks. £1,700 pledged. Time to see who meant it.

When I started The Old Grey Thinker a few weeks ago, I thought it would be a quiet little experiment — a space for curiosity, sarcasm, and maybe a few kindred spirits who still believe thinking hasn’t gone out of fashion.

Then 6,000 of you turned up.
In three weeks.

One post hit 85,000 readers.
Another sparked dozens of stories from people who said, “I thought I was the only one still curious.”

So here we are.

A few hundred messages later, and £1,700 in pledges sitting patiently in Substack’s system, it’s time to make it official:
The Old Grey Thinker is now a paid publication.

Before you roll your eyes — nothing’s changing for free readers. You’ll still get regular essays, reflections, and the occasional philosophical rant about modern nonsense.

But paid members will get more — and deeper.

Here’s what I’m adding:

  • Full access to every essay and the complete archive

  • A “Niche in a Box” — a full niche plan from my Gumroad system

  • Private comment threads and Q&As

  • Annual or Founding subscribers also get free access to my complete Gumroad library (normally £79) — practical guides that show you how to share what you know and get noticed doing it

  • Founding members get lifetime library access and early previews of future projects

I’ve built this whole thing on one belief: everyone has knowledge worth sharing.
And this is how I keep proving it — one honest essay, one curious reader, one idea at a time.

If you’ve enjoyed reading, learning, and occasionally muttering “exactly” at the screen, now’s the moment to help it grow.

Click the Upgrade to paid button below — or go annual if you’d like the full Gumroad library as a thank-you.

Let’s see who meant it.

Warmly,
Robert — The Old Grey Thinker
