Have We All Become Hoarders of Digital Clutter?
Ah, digital clutter—a modern-day menace masquerading as progress. You ever find yourself drowning in a sea of untapped apps and half-read articles? You’re not alone, my friend. It’s the time-old conundrum: do we have too much information or just not enough sense to manage it?
Picture this: there I was, a firm believer in the merits of organisation—neat desk, tidy folders, an arsenal of colour-coded notes. I fancied myself a disciplined chap. Everything in its place, right? Wrong! It’s 2025, and merely having a spot for everything doesn’t cut the mustard anymore.
Many of us are adrift in the ocean of information, with apps like Obsidian, Evernote, and Notion as our lifebuoys. Yet somehow, we still manage to sink. I’ve lost more perfectly good snippets of genius to digital limbo than I’d care to admit—these apps, as lovely as they are, often become insane filing cabinets for “someday.” Ever thought about that? Files go in, but rarely see the light of day again.
And then came Todoist, like a knight in digital armour. It’s the simplicity that got me. I’ve tried all sorts before, but Todoist hit a chord—everything you clip is transformed into a task. Not some vague, ominous note buried beneath the countless others, but a glaring item on your to-do list. Forced accountability, you might say.
You see, the secret isn’t in hoarding information. It’s in their review and, more crucially, the acting on them. This peculiar little app offers a choice: read it, use it, or boot it. Things got downright liberating—like a cup of tea on a chilly day.
Fancy a deeper dive into how this shift happened? My musings are all catalogued neatly on Substack, and they don’t get lost. Have a look here if you’re curious: https://theoldgreythinker.substack.com. Perhaps you’ll find a nugget of wisdom or two.
Success, I’ve realised, doesn’t come from having stacks of notes. It comes from moving things forward, and in today’s world, that starts with a humble to-do list. Maybe it’s time to stop being a curator of digital lore and start being an active participant.
Well, that’s enough rambling for now. I’m hoping you enjoyed this so pop the kettle on and subscribe to The Old Grey Thinker on Substack—musings, moans and the occasional moment of wisdom from a reluctant retiree: https://theoldgreythinker.substack.com. Cheers!
